Professional Outsourcing Blog - NASSCOM DAY 3

Friday 11th February 2011

The era of inclusive growth Inclusion was the leading theme on the final day of NASSCOM 2011.
The technology industry seems to be becoming more conscious of its social responsibilities and the importance of inclusion. Delegates spoke about inclusion in different contexts, driven by either growth or participation.

Social media has emerged as a powerful tool to promote inclusion. Governments and companies around the world are realising that they need to consider the possibilities of these new technologies and cannot afford to ignore them.

Innovation was highlighted as a key area for inclusion. The technology industry needs to focus on innovation that transforms lives. In some areas of the industry, new uses of technology are acting as a great leveller. For example, one of the aims of India's Unique Identification Card (UID) project is to ensure that India's rural poor are recognised and receive the benefits of programs targeted at them.  There is an aspiration in the industry to continue to harness the transformational power of technology for the good of all, and this has set a clear challenge - to deliver benefits over and above contributions to global GDP.

We are also seeing the increasing importance of inclusion in the consumer side of the technology market.  Providers and consumers alike have become far more influential and powerful. Consumers are using information to ensure they are treated fairly and consistently and producers now have the opportunity to take their products to the market faster than ever. The era of inclusion is here, and it is here to stay.
